Sculpting Land Session 2: Jonathan Taylor
In this workshop with Jonathan Taylor you will learn about the history of clay use in ancient Mesopotamia and how to create your own cuneiform clay tablet.
Jonathan Taylor will be giving a presentation and leading a workshop exploring the history and materiality of clay in ancient Mesopotamia. We will learn about the fascinating uses of clay in this time, and will try our hand at making a cuneiform tablet.
Jonathan Taylor is a curator at the British Museum, where he is responsible for the vast collection of cuneiform texts from the ancient Near East. He has a particular interest in education and literacy in the Near East. He also researches tablets as artefacts, and Mesopotamian ideas of history.
Prior to his appointment in January 2006, Jonathon was a Research Fellow on the Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature, University of Oxford and then Leverhulme Research Fellow on the Cuneiform Digital Palaeography Project, University of Birmingham.
