Sculpting Land Session 1: Rosanna Martin

In this workshop with Rosanna Martin you will learn how to find and process clay and create your own clay brick using traditional techniques.

Join us on Monday 2 September to hear Rosanna Martin talk about how to practically find and process clay dug up from the ground. She will talk about the recent Brickfield project in Cornwall – a community arts project run by herself and Georgia Gendall that looks at the by-products left from Cornwall’s china clay processing industry and considers how this residue might be used today to create a unique clay body specific to that landscape and its history. In the afternoon she will run a workshop using some of the processing and brick making techniques.

Rosanna Martin is an artist living and working in Cornwall. Her practice explores the relationships between landscape, people and materials through the creation of sculpture, drawings and participatory events. In 2017 she opened Brickworks, an open access ceramic workshop in Penryn. She is currently working on Brickfield, an experimental brickworks set in the now disused china clay quarry Blackpool Pit, for Whitegold, St. Austell’s ceramic festival.
