Meeting point: Shakespeare’s Head, 64-68 Kingsway, London WC2B 6BG

Artists Christopher Rountree and Rupert Ackroyd are invited by Open School East’s ’Space and Politics’ research group to lead a unique multi-site seminar.

They will take us to different bars and pubs – all belonging to the chain J.D. Wetherspoon – to examine and discuss vernacular architecture and commercial ‘brandscapes’, from the late Victorian era to the present.

Christopher Rountree is an artist and writer whose research centres on the examination of design aesthetics in themed consumer environments.

Rupert Ackroyd is an artist who investigates everyday environments and the ordinary objects that are a backdrop to daily life.
