Rethinking our participation: Romeo Gongora in conversation with Juliette Desorgues
Romeo Gongora and ICA curator Juliette Desorgues will discuss the obstacles and challenges faced when creating contemporary art projects within the public realm. They will explore the role of contemporary art in reconfiguring public space, and its capacity to create a meaningful dialogue and interaction with the everyday, from the gallery space to the public realm, and back.
This event is made possible by Acme International Residencies, where Romeo Gongora is undertaking a residency supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
The conversation will be centred on two projects inspired by artistic initiatives in Quebec in the 1960-70s: Just Watch Me, a gallery converted into a social club, and Commun Commune, a month-long experiment bringing strangers together to experience life in a commune.
