Leaving this world

This term echoed the project ‘Emperor Qin’s Mausoleum‘ led by Marguerite Humeau, which ran in parallel and explored the afterlife, antiquity and space. The programme for this term was put together by Heather Tait.

Who is awesome? Who do we celebrate?: In this session we created large 3d Portraits.

Wednesday 7 February

Rockets: In this session we built and decorated a space rocket inspired by the LIDO tower in Cliftonville to take us to a new planet.

Wednesday 21 February

Clay modelling: In this session we created our own terracotta army that will journey with us to our new planet.

Wednesday 28 February

Build a wall: In this session we made bricks from plaster of Paris and foraged items e.g. seaweed, shells, etc.

Wednesday 7 March

Chalk carving: Inspired by hieroglyphics we created our own symbolic language and carved it into the chalk.

Wednesday 14 March

Metalwork: In this session we practiced embossing and made objects out of wire.

Wednesday 21 March

Jewellery making: In this session we made bracelets, badges and pendants using sea glass and other found items.

Make a time capsule: In this session we made a time capsule and thought about what we should leave behind on Earth.

Candle making: In this session we made candles to take with us to our new planet.

Costume making part 1: In this session we began designing and making costumes to wear on our journey to our new planet.
