A pop-up poster-making and planting workshop at the Mobile Growing Unit, led by OSE’s Artistic Director Polly Brannan as part of Despacito Art School’s 2025 Summer Exhibition Home is where the garden is. 

During the workshop members of the public learnt how to take plant cuttings and were invited to make posters responding to the questions:

What is a home? What does it mean to have roots? What connects you to home? What does a garden mean to you? Who/what is a garden for? How are you connected to plants?

Typography used in the posters was co-designed by Despacito Art School with Polly and OSE’s in-house graphic designer George Harding, who also designed the base poster motif, in response to Despacito’s designs.

The exhibition and accompanying workshop were kindly hosted by Roland Ross gallery on Northdown Road in Cliftonville.

Despacito Art School (est. 2017) began as a project-based programme for children aged 5-12+ from Cliftonville West, Margate. Today, Despacito Art School operate as a children and young people’s art collective. The programme provides regular opportunities for the collective to take part in hands-on art making with leading artists and showcase their work in public presentations to their families, the local arts community and the broader public. Despacito Art School have recently worked on projects with artists including Samara Scott, Harold Offeh, Sara Trillo, Camilo Pachón and shared their work with local partners Turner Contemporary and Roland Ross gallery. Despacito have also worked on projects with The BBC and shared their work as part of Shenece Oretha’s Iniva x European Cultural Foundation Drift Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Roland Ross is a contemporary art gallery based in Margate, UK, With a focus on showcasing conceptually rigorous positions in contemporary art, the gallery collaborates closely with emerging and mid-career artists to produce meticulously curated presentations of their work.
