Pop-up pickling workshop with live demos and opportunities to get involved hands-on, led by members of Despacito Art School with OSE Community Cook Keely Burrows.

Pickles and fritters were made with produce grown in the OSE planters at Ethel-Athel Alleway Garden and tasters were prepared and served throughout the pop-up. Here, Despacito Art School shared tips, as well as their art and community-led approach to working, with Ethel-Athel Alleyway Garden residents.

This pop-up was kindly hosted by Ethel-Athel Alleway Garden as part of their Community Day, which brought residents together to share local knowledge and expertise, as well as good food and conversation.

Recipes and foraging tips developed and collected as part of these pop-ups were brought together in our community cookbook Growing Wild – Foraging, Cooking and Pickling in Cliftonville West. The cookbook includes recipes from across the world that are connected to local families. The cookbook was translated into Slovakian and Czech by OSE Community Translator and long term member of Despacito Art School Vlasta Hozova. 

Keely Burrows is a community-focused gardener and cook with a passion for urban gardening and improving access to locally foraged & seasonal food. My background as a chef and amateur gardener has inspired me to explore the connection between growing and preparing food in sustainable, accessible ways. I enjoy sharing practical skills, encouraging people to connect with nature, and using food and gardening to bring communities together while promoting wellbeing and environmental awareness.
