OSE x Radio Margate ‘Sounds of Space’ 23th November 2018: 12-2pm
Dipesh Pandya, Sarah Karen and Louise Webb
The OSE studios were filled with the sounds of popcorn, fire alarms, crunchy radishes, crispy crackers and drill bit music as we went full steam ahead with preparations for our end of year show.
Kicking off with a rare recording of Prince Far-I introducing a John Peel session from 1978, we moved through the warp and weft of soundscapes used in the work of visiting artist and OSE alumni, Yemi Awosile weaving into loom sounds and traditional Scottish waulking songs.
Bleeps, beats and clicks from The Ragga Twins and Jay Dilla, techno from Tel-Aviv and dub from Lee Perry & The Upsetters were mixed with the sounds of Punjabi folk legend Gurdas Maan, English performance artist Cosi Fanni Tutti, Margate based sound artist Matt Lewis and readings of texts on crip time, Jamaican sound system culture and tales of loneliness.
