The Well

Between 24 and 26 November 2017, the OSE Associates will be presenting new works made individually or collaboratively during their time at Open School East, through the format of a group exhibition, a series of live events and a publication. For the occasion, we have invited Cédric Fauq to act as a guest curator and adviser.

This weekend, we will also premier ‘Spelunking, a video made by Benedict Drew with the OSE Associates and members of the public as part of an 8 week-long collective video-making project commissioned by OSE.

The Well taps into a landscape. It is a fundamental means of extraction, where things come to the surface and where people congregate. We can well up with emotions. The well might spill over or run dry. The well can be both subject to systems of power or an open source, a point in which fables are made and wishes can be called for.

The forms and themes running through the works of the Associates have germinated as a result of interactions with each other, the guest artists invited to work at OSE and the public events they have collectively devised. The exhibition and events will present work in media varying from sculpture, sound, performance, painting, video and installation; exploring interior worlds – from the inner body to the dark web – and exterior territories – whether geographical, historical or archaeological.
