Making History: A ceramics workshop

image1

This workshop, led by Kerri Meehan and Alex Ressel, aims to practically explore ceramics, archaeology, time and the everyday through making objects that might fool a future historians into thinking that our society is different to how we experience it. For example, a participant might make a ceramic object that suggests that our society is matriarchal, or that there are no borders between states, or perhaps we live underwater independently of fossil fuels, eating only plastic and an 8 year old is the ruler of the planet.

Our knowledge of cultures deep in the past is based on the material evidence left behind. The present trend of keeping digital archives, a very delicate way of storing information, leaves open a real possibility of us fooling archaeologists in the future with the objects we make.

Let’s try to make sure something fun survives the test of time!

Parts of this workshop will be recorded for an art work, please inform Alex Ressel if you might be uncomfortable with this.
