This is our first artist-led social evening for art teachers and educators.

We would like to connect and establish working relationships with schools, colleges and youth groups in the Thanet area and create a fun network to share ideas and best practice.  The first artist we have chosen is local artist and gallerist, Lindsey Mendick.  Lindsey is an artist who predominantly works both skillfully and playfully with clay, often creating elaborate installations. During the evening, Lindsey will discuss her own work and the opening of a gallery in Margate,  along with an informal and practical workshop introducing thoughtful ways to create artwork with clay.

About the Artist

Lindsey Mendick (b.1987, London) lives and works in Margate. Mendick received an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, London in 2017.  Mendick works predominantly with clay, a medium that is often associated with decoration and the domestic, subverting these historic connotations to create skilled monuments to ‘low culture’ and the contemporary female experience.

She was the recipient of the Henry Moore Foundation Artist Award in 2020, the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award in 2018 and was also selected for Jerwood Survey 2019 and the Future Generations Art Prize 2020. She is also co-founder of project space and gallery, Quench in Margate. Quench was created in the pandemic with the aim of giving artists and curators an opportunity to develop new work and put on exhibitions. They are a not-for-profit venture with  all possible art sales and proceeds going  directly to the artists.
